What is said in here -- stays in here UNLESS . . .

As school counselors, we are required to report:

  • You plan to hurt yourself.
Suicide threats, attempts, or thoughts, including thought of wanting to be dead. If you tell your counselor that your parents know about the problem, we will still verify this.

  • You plan to hurt others.
Threats to your safety or the safety of others. This includes concerns about fighting, self-injury, substance abuse, and sexual activity. We are required to report this.

  • Someone has hurt you.
Physical or sexual abuse that has not been previously reported. We will need to report this.  If you tell us that it has been previously reported, we will still need to verify this.

  • If you tell about a crime being committed.  Unreported felony crimes.
When a student meets "reasonable suspicion" of being under the influence of a controlled substance at school or has possession of a controlled substance at school.
